Why do we have an AI Policy?

The use of AI has exploded in the last few years. We as a society are only now coming to grasp how dangerous and beneficial it can be for society. However, that does not mean there is any space for AI in Obsidian DPS. You my love AI or hate AI and I am not here to endores or attack AI. I want to be clear that AI does have great potential to help us solve complex issues, tackly climate change (ironic with the current datacenter issues I know) and so much more.

What I do not want to see is AI used to create adventure, images or resources for games ran with Obsidian DPS. If you choose to use them, we will not endorse your adventures on our website.

Have I used AI before for TTRPG's?

I would be lying if I said no, however; my opinion on AI have changed. Not necessarily due to the impact on local communities around data centers but also because as it advances, we need to be very careful how we interact with it and I do not think TTRPG's are a good way to teach AI about us.  In addition, I feel that using AI in any way to play a TTRPG takes away authenticity and human creativity.

Is there AI content in Obsidian DPS?

No, there is not, but that was not how it started. AI was used to collect data and in failed attempts to organize the early stages of the book. I did not use it for creating mechanics, the basic mechanics I had already completed before getting to this stage. After coming to the same understanding about AI as many of you, I stopped using it completely and started the long process of rewriting the system to remove any trace of AI. Obsidian DPS has had 2 additional rewrite edits since then.  

Looking back, I am not proud of using AI when I started this journey, but I am proud that I was able to rewrite the book with my own words, creativity and inspiration..

I get that I am a bit hypocritical when I tell all of you not to use AI in beta testing or in creating new products from Obsidian DPS, but I do hope you understand when I say this and why.
